Mount Cardigan, NH 2019

On Saturday, Jan. 19 members of Boy Scout Troop 306 in Rutland departed on a weekend trip to Mount Cardigan in Alexandria, NH. The 10 scouts and three leaders traveled to the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) Cardigan Lodge and then packed their supplies for the three-day trip in preparation for the 2 plus mile hike to the AMC High Cabin. The High Cabin, equipped with bunks, a wood stove and modest kitchen, was used as a base camp for the weekend activities. The next day the group snowshoed though roughly 12 inches of freshly fallen snow to ascend Mount Cardigans 3,156-foot peak. That night the group used a hand-crank weather radio to listen to the New England Patriot’s victory in the AFC Championship Game.
